The School of Good Citizenship is a 6-day series of multi-discipline art events bookending the 2020 Republican Convention in Charlotte, NC over three weekends. This project is designed to spark a public conversation about democracy focused on those whose voices have been historically marginalized. In collaboration with local artists, as well as cultural and educational organizations, the focus is on civic engagement through spoken word poetry, visual art exhibitions, public art, film screenings, artist workshops, and discussions. Simultaneously, a second component will commission four local artists to create temporary public art works exploring issues of voting rights, immigration, and incarceration. The project is spearheaded by artists Nora Ligorano and Marshall Reese, and fiscally sponsored by the Standby Program.
