All* Above All

All* Above All is a catalyst for abortion justice working at the intersections of racial, economic, and immigrant justice.

All* Above All aims to make abortion care safe, accessible, and affordable for everyone. The campaign works to advance a bold vision of a future that includes unapologetic and proactive policies, as well as a culture shift toward accepting everyone’s personal healthcare decisions.

Since the 1970s, the Hyde Amendment has been attached to federal budget bills to ban federal funding from paying for abortion care, a policy that disproportionately impacts people already marginalized by economic, racial, or gender injustice.

All* Above All (fiscal sponsor: New Venture Fund) is the only campaign led by women of color that is mobilizing to repeal the Hyde Amendment and advance reproductive justice. In 2021, after nearly a decade of the campaign, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a budget bill without the Hyde Amendment for the first time since 1976.

Unrestricted, multi-year funding has allowed All* Above All to chart a long-term strategic path toward universal abortion access, while responding to the needs and opportunities of the changing political moment.  All* Above All’s success demonstrates the power of investing in relationships and coalitions over the long term. The organizers began by spending more than a year cultivating relationships among campaign members, bridging historical movement divisions and making the campaign as bold and inclusive as possible. To date, more than 130 organizations have signed on to their efforts.

That commitment to relationship- and coalition-building has remained core to All* Above All’s work. As they have built relationships with local- and state-based groups to advance abortion coverage on the state level, they have also built strong mutual relationships with movement groups outside the usual reproductive justice circles, including in the economic and immigrant justice movements. These relationships have led to concrete shifts in campaigning—like All* Above All being an active participant in the Fight for $15 campaign to raise the minimum wage—and have also been crucial in reshaping the public conversation to recognize that abortion access is a crucial part of economic and racial justice too, and none of those goals is possible without the others.
